My my my… I have been working with Randy and Judy for just over three months, a very busy and efficient three months. They started this process with a date, a church, basic ideas of vendors and details that they wanted, and some pink fabric (you’ll get that one later), and ended with an incredibly romantic and exciting front yard celebration filled with love and great company. Their vision was soft and elegant, and their #1 hope was that they proved that “old people could have fun too!” which they certainly did. This was one of the happiest, most upbeat weddings that I’ve seen. Their age says nothing for their energy, excitement, and ability to party – they could certainly out-party me! These two were a blast to work with and while I’m sad that our weekly meetings have come to an end, it truly couldn’t have been a better day – please enjoy our ten favorite parts of Randy and Judy’s wedding day.

Ten. Jazz Quartet

With Judy’s extensive musical background, it only makes sense to have a handpicked jazz quartet play in their house during the reception. A group that I later found out don’t always play together, but you never would have known when you heard them. The windows were open allowing the music to flow out into the yard, entertaining the guests for the entirety of the reception. By the time the last song came around, around 30 guests had made their way inside and filled the living room. Live music always adds a little something to an event, but to have them playing in the living room of their home made it a much more personal and intimate detail of the day.

Nine. The Weather

A ridiculous rainy outdoor wedding day wouldn’t typically be anywhere close to this top ten list, but the energy that was felt throughout this entire day showed that the weather didn’t matter at all. It brought bright fun rain coats, and an umbrella escorting system where we helped keep everyone and their food dry during the walk from the buffet to their seats. The joy of the day was not affected at all, and it was a great example of the life that Randy and Judy have built and those that they keep close. At one point, Judy’s niece Sara stated “We can make a party out of a mess” and it was so true! It was wet and muddy and truly just a mess, but by looking at the guests and the fun that was had, you never would have known. Rain or shine has a whole new meaning for us!

Eight. Mud Wrestling

Through all of the smiles and laughs, Judy and Randall were consistently in the best moods. Some couples would be devastated about the weather and it’s easy to let it get to you, but not for them. At one point, Randy stood up to give a welcome to all and began with. ” Alright, the mud wrestling will begin in ten minutes. You are welcome to participate or be a spectator, but there will be a small fee for all spectators” with the most serious face. His one-liners through this whole process have been an absolute hoot, but this one even caught me off guard. Another fabulous way to make the best of the weather.

Seven. Flowers

I was in love with the vibe of this wedding from day one when Judy showed me the wildflower design for the invites – soft pastel colors, simplicity, and an emphasis on love. The decor on Saturday did not stray from the original design. Soft pink tablecloths, table numbers with dried florals, and centerpieces filled with colorful bouquets of all types of flowers. The head table had small bud vases the entire way down adding color to the entire table and a vase for Judy’s bouquet at the center. It was stunning and had a simple elegance to it. Add in the welcome sign (that my husband willingly made upon my request) that included a beautiful array of flowers, and all was pulled together perfectly.

Six. First Dance

The first dance was something that Randy was iffy about the entire time, as they’d never danced together before. When the weather squashed the plan of dancing in the driveway, the newlyweds made their way inside and had the most beautiful ballroom dance in their living room right beside the jazz quartet playing live for this first dance moment. Not only was it intimate, but it could be seen through the windows by those outside or in the reception space, and made for incredible photos. It was the perfect first dance and I’m so glad that they included it in their day, as moving it inside made it even better!

Five. The Catering

Having dietary restricted menus can sometimes be a bit bland, but that was not the case here. Judy and Randy opted for a wonderfully diverse menu and man did Brown Dog Catering deliver! From the Thai peanut celery sticks, to the mini naan margherita pizzas, and of course the veggie paella – my mouth is watering just thinking about it. A unique menu that was a whirlpool of flavor and deliciousness and an extremely memorable meal for all.

Four. Cake Cutting

Carrying the cake is always my most stressful part of the day, and this one included walking backwards down stairs, eeeeek. Luckily, it was all made worth it during the cake cutting, when they excitedly got to try it. When asked to “do that again” regarding their post-cake-cutting kiss, we joked that we meant the whole thing, to which Judy jumped right into it, cutting herself another slice and continuing her dessert. She knew what was up, as when we tried the cake later, it was absolutely delicious – spice cake, carrot cake, and lemon raspberry – each layer even better than the last!

Three. The Rings

A unique twist to their day included Judy’s daughter being a jeweler who makes one-of-a-kind jewelry and tools out of damascus steel. While I didn’t get a photo of them, these rings turned out absolutely beautiful, and were such a fun and unique addition to their love story. To have a loved one be included in that way was so sweet, and you know that we love a non-traditional flair in any way. I will be sure to upload a photo once we get them back, but for now, feel free to visit her site at https://www.victoriamoore.net/

Two. Dress

Now, I know DIY brides are a thing, but I have to say, I have never had a bride DIY her own dress. Judy is clearly a talented seamstress, as she started from scratch and ended with a beautiful pink tea length dress with a matching shear shall with pearl trim. It was incredible. As someone whose sewing skills end with safety pins, I was in awe of the skill that she has to create such a gorgeous piece for her own wedding. Imagine my surprise when I found out she also made her rehearsal dinner dress. 😍

One. The Point

At a time when the “I forgot that this was the whole point” videos are circling social media, I feel like this wedding was the perfect example of what the reminders look like. Judy and Randy never stressed about the small details, in fact, they hardly stressed at all. They did everything that they could for their big day, and if something didn’t go how they planned, they laughed it off and continued enjoying their day. When their suits came in black instead of tan, they decided they would wear black. When mother nature had other plans for the bar tent, we moved the bar to the garage, and when the rain didn’t stop, Judy got out her raincoat, and went about the day. There was nothing that could stop these two from celebrating their love and their new marriage, and that really is the whole point.

Honorable Mentions: Rex and Lucy

While they weren’t present at the wedding or reception, I got to meet these two little sweeties during a couple of our on-site meetings and they were just angels. Two long-haired dachshunds with so much personality and lots of love – they were so cuddly and definitely made their opinions heard when our meeting was pushing back the time that they got fed. I’m always a huge fan of dogs, and these two were no different, I can see why they weren’t there on the big day, they definitely would have stolen the show.

To one of the sweetest couples I’ll ever have the privilege of working with, congratulations! If your marriage is half as fun as your wedding day was, you’ll be set for life. Thanks for trusting Blue Bon Events to bring this vision to life, and for being such a delight to work with. <3
