Ten of my favorite things from the Shaffer Wedding:
Ten: Charcuterie Cups – The Rocky Grill Staff crushed it with all of the food, but these cups truly added to the vibe of the entire cocktail hour, and served as a perfect snack throughout the night. I’m sad that I didn’t get a photo of them all set up, as they we so cute, but that’s a testament to how quickly people took them and chowed down!
Nine: Mr Brightside – During a lull in the dollar dance line, I decided to jump in and snag a quick dance with the bride to celebrate that we made it. As soon as I did, the song changed from your typical slow songs to Mr. Brightside, which just so happens to be my favorite wedding reception song. It was perfect for us to dance around and then transition right into what was a completely full dance floor for the rest of the night.
Eight: The Doggie Bags – Many of our meetings were spent trying to find ways to include Morgan’s dog Luna, but then a month ago, they added another pup to the pack, which made having them at the venue more difficult. This didn’t stop them from honoring their babies (in multiple ways) though, including offering baggies of dog treats from Luna and Harper for guests to take home to their own pups.
Seven: The Flexibility – from the weather to pivoting pictures, and rearranging the timeline numerous times, the flexibility of the vendors was unmatched. I spent plenty of time running back and forth between the on-site vendors making sure we were able to adjust accordingly to make the best use of everyone’s time. A flexible and helpful vendor team is always appreciated!
Six: A Family Affair – I can not explain how much of an understatement this is. Having family assist with set up and teardown is one thing, but Morgan and Sinjin truly have a village behind them through life. Starting with joining us at numerous meetings, and ending with loading the cars full of everything we needed to set up, their immediate families, bridal party, and Rocky Grill fam really pulled through to bring this day to life.
Five: The live violinist – I am always in awe of musical talent, as it is something that I wish I had more of, but Taryn truly raised the bar. Not only did she choose beautiful songs when Morgan and Sinjin gave her the autonomy to pick some of the ceremony music, but she was so sweet and wonderful to work with, even when we had to move her station for the ceremony due to weather. 10/10 – if you’re looking for a violinist, she’s truly incredible.
Four: The Bridal Party – This may be an extension of number six, but they deserve their own shout-out. Many of them pulled double duty by helping with logistics throughout the night, or getting the fun sunglasses photos of guests, but that didn’t stop them from giving the sweetest toasts and showing how much they care for the now Shaffers. All 6 members of the bridal party took the mic and had something to say, which had everyone in the room laughing and reminiscing. It was beautiful.
Three: The Margarita Wall – Many discussions took place on whether or not to have this and where to rent it from, but in the end, they decided to build one themselves & I’m so glad they did. It perfectly matched their classy theme, but had a fun twist of having their signature drink, the lime margarita, instead of the traditional champagne. It was a gorgeous focal point, a hit with the guests, and summed up the vibe they were going for perfectly.
Two: The Cake – Let’s bring this back to what really matters, the pups. Another way that they included them in their celebration was through a STUNNING cake created by Holly’s Crafty Cakes. The pearl accents on the white cake were plenty swoon-worthy on their own, but when you add in the sweet little fondant dogs each taking a bite from a different side, it doesn’t get better than that.
One: The Last Dance – A favorite of mine as far as wedding traditions go is always the last dance, but the atmosphere for this one was unmatched. Morgan and Sinjin, alone on the dance floor, dancing to all your’n, with all of the lights down except for the beautiful statement chandelier. The chandelier and bridge architecture at the Roost made for stunning photos all night, but this was my favorite.
Honorable Mention: The fact that they had to stop and get more wine on the drive from the rehearsal to the rehearsal dinner because the father of the bride kicked off the celebration early with some wine during setup.
Morgan and I have been meeting bi-weekly for over 6 months to plan this beautiful day, which makes it hard to believe that I won’t be stopping by their restaurant or sending random ideas that I find in the coming weeks. I’m very thankful that they trusted me to help them plan and execute such a beautiful wedding, and absolutely adored working with them and their family. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer may your honeymoon be a relaxing getaway after a beautiful celebratory weekend!
