There are some weddings that stick with guests long after the last candle burns out, and I just know that Vogt/Prince wedding was one of those. From the unique details to the heartfelt surprises, their wedding was so guest-focused and was the perfect reflection of who they are as a couple; full of love, laughter, and personality. While we already miss the energetic weekly meetings with these two, we’re thankful to have been a part of it and are so excited to share our 10 favorite details of this wonderful Scio, NY wedding.
ten. an outfit change
These are always a hit, and getting to have the experience of two completely different dresses in one night makes for such a fun vibe, but what makes it even better is when the groom also makes a change and comes back in a bright yellow tie with smiley faces on it. They strutted back into the reception like they were walking down a runway, the whole dance floor started cheering when they got back and Austin was straight up clapping for Mikayla in her new dress, and the energy of the room just doubled, if that was even possible.
nine. late night snack
We are quite literally always advocates for pizza and wings, and Pizza King did not disappoint at all, but that wasn’t my favorite part. I happened to spot the delivery driver and went up to get it all organized before Mikayla saw and left the dance floor. We got it all set up, and the driver gave me the receipt, which listed the name as “Mikayla Prince” – ahhh! It was mere hours after this became official, and it was already how she was being addressed by strangers.. and in writing! When I showed her, she told me that she did not do that, so whoever ordered under this exciting new name – 10/10. Such a sweet and special little addition to the excitement of the day.
eight. simplicity
When I asked for thoughts on how they wanted their table to decor to look, the one consistent word I got was “simple.” A couple of candles, some baby’s breath, and the table numbers were placed at the center of each table, with just black napkins and silverware at the place settings. This simple setting, paired with beautiful clear (label-free) bourbon bottles that they brought to use for water, and it all blended perfectly to create the simplest, most beautifully elegant table decor, a pretty great metaphor for them I think: quite laid back, but with the most beautiful spirit and love for one another.
seven. who has the rings
At every rehearsal, we ask the couple “who will have the rings?” so that the officiant knows who to direct this part of the ceremony to. Often, it’s the ring bearer (very trusting!) who has the ring box, while other times it’s a bridal party member that is holding it in a coat pocket. With the bridal party sitting in the front rows, and no ring bearer, this question ended up being a little more difficult than usual, but I loved where it ended up, with them having their mom’s, who were in the first seats on each side hold them, and then giving them each their moment when it was time to exchange them where they got to go up and each hand their child their rings. It was sweet to allow them this special moment, but also symbolic of them helping them take the leap to begin this new chapter together where they become a family of their own.
six. rehearsal dress
Imagine us help everyone get ready for the rehearsal and seeing the bride in this GORGEOUS mini dress, only to find out that she altered her mom’s wedding dress so she could wear it to her rehearsal. It’s personal details like this that just bring me to tears. It was an incredible way to honor her parents and the influence that their relationship had on her that led her to this moment, and it was also a beautiful dress, so a real win-win!
five. favors
In true fashion of a couple who focused HARD on the guest experience factor of their wedding, the favors held true to this theme as well. Favors are certainly a touchy subject, and you don’t often see them anymore, but they can be a really special detail when executed the right way. In the dead of summer, the first week of August, in a very sunlit field, these first two were just the absolutely best for all involved. At the ceremony welcome table, where guests could get either water or champagne for during the ceremony, there were also the cutest little fans and umbrellas that could be used for shade. These ended up doubling as efficient, and awesome photo ops, as seeing guests in their seats with these was awesome, and even photos that I took turned out pretty great. Plus, then at cocktail hour, they had custom match boxes at the cigar bar, which was brilliant – a practical gift that is perfect to keep in the car or a bag in case you need one, and serves as a wonderful reminder of such a great day!
four. ceremony layout
Days before the wedding, Mikayla shared her vision of she and Austin being the only two under the arch during the ceremony. She was set on having their officiant stand in the middle of the aisle instead of up front with them. This took some thought, and working through logistics, but in the end, it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the day. The beautiful outdoor scenery behind them made the perfect backdrop for this picturesque ceremony, and it felt much more intimate than the traditional layout.
Sidenote: This is the perfect opportunity for wedding advice: if you have a gut feeling about something that you want at your wedding, just do it – or at least speak up and try it, even if it’s days before – it could turn out really beautiful.
three. limbo
The dance floor itself was poppin’ ALL NIGHT. There was not a single song that was played that the guests didn’t fill it up and overflow into the grass to share in the celebration. There were many many times that I looked over and laughed or snapped a pic (see the one of Austin doing a split…) but it was when I found a line of guests to limbo. Under what, you ask? Another guest’s belt – probably one of the most creative spur-of-the-moment activities that I’ve seen at wedding thus far.
two. first dance
The first dance is almost always a favorite of ours, so we intentionally take the time to be present and enjoy this moment in between our other tasks. A choreographed dance though? Obsessed. The song was filled with spins, dips, lifts, and most importantly, SO many smiles. It was fun, unique, and so perfectly executed. We’re obviously a fan of a good plan, and they crushed it at this one!
one. it’s all about the details
At this wedding specifically, the details I’m referring to are the ones that kept the guests feeling included. Austin and Mikayla were SO caring and they truly thought out every piece of their day. Starting with the pre-wedding cocktails which took place in the barn which was beautifully decorated with the wedding photos of all married guests – the sweetest addition to a day full of love. Add this in with how they. insisted on being down with photos for cocktail hour so they could spend it with their loved ones, and the fact that they checked on us as vendors, and frequently asked us “do you need anything?” during their own wedding.. it just speaks volumes of who they are as people.
honorable mention: the venue
Oh. my. goodness. When you’re engaged and your family owns a wedding venue, it’s pretty obviously where you’re going to have your wedding, whether the space is truly the vision you’ve had or not. But this venue, and a summer wedding? It does not matter at all what your vision is, there’s likely an option. Get married in a field? Done. In a barn. Also done. What about beside a river? in the middle of the woods? an outdoor tent? a field? amidst perfectly spaced out trees? a back yard feel? inside? These are literally all options. The different types of weddings that could take place here are unbelievable and it doesn’t hurt that the owners (Austins parents, Annette and Ian) are wonderful! We had so much fun, and even got a golf cart tour of the property which only made us fall in love more. If you’re looking for a venue in New York, I highly recommend, and I can only hope this is only the first of the events I get to do at the beautiful Prince-Phillips Millstone.
honorable mention: it takes a village
And of course, perfectly in line with the luck we’ve had in 2025, our vendor team was unbelievably awesome. Not only were they great at what they do, and fabulous at collaborating, but even just their sense of humor matched perfectly which made for smooth sailing the whole weekend. From all hands on deck moments helping the caterers serve, to managing updates, and laughing during our quick little dinner break, it was truly fun to work with each of them and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Mikayla and Austin are so sweet, caring, and fun, and the love that the share is beautiful. They were surrounded by the best people, making it so much fun to be there and we’re so thankful to have been such a special part of your big day! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Prince!!
